The Green Card Initiative - Rewarding Sustainable Choices
One of our most effective initiatives is the Green Card program which allows guests to make a direct contribution to sustainability during their stay. Guests who opt out of daily room servicing receive a $10 food and beverage voucher to use at our Restaurant Two14.
The results are astonishing. Between 2023 and 2024, the Green Card program has resulted in over 8,000 rooms not requiring daily servicing, saving 14,000 litres of water and 3,000 litres of cleaning chemicals. These savings benefit the environment and our carbon footprint. By participating our guests are directly contributing to these amazing numbers and see how small choices can make a big impact.
Eco-Friendly Amenities and Practices
At Deco Hotel we know the details matter when it comes to sustainability. We’ve removed single use plastics from our guest amenities. All toiletries are now refillable pump dispensers, reducing plastic waste without compromising on quality or convenience. We’ve also introduced biodegradable laundry bags, replacing non-eco friendly ones. These small changes are part of our overall waste reduction strategy across the business.
Our commitment to sustainability also extends to how we communicate with our guests. By consolidating guest information onto one piece of paper and offering digital updates in the lobby and lifts we’ve reduced paper usage and promoted resource efficiency. This fits with our overall goal of adopting sustainable practices that enhance the guest experience and conserve resources.
As part of our commitment to sustainability and a greener future, Deco Hotel offers two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for the convenience of our guests. Additionally, our in-room televisions feature an e-compendium with helpful information on this to further enhance the guest experience.
Energy Efficiency at Deco Hotel
Hotdash Technology
Technology is a big part of our sustainability strategy and Hotdash is a key part of that. This energy management system allows us to monitor and control room specific climate settings with precision so we can be energy efficient without compromising guest comfort.
Smart motion sensors in each room detect when the room is unoccupied and automatically adjust the heating, cooling and lighting to save energy. For example lights turn off and the air conditioning or heating systems are adjusted to a more energy efficient setting.
Hotdash also includes automated curtain controls which adapt to seasonal and directional changes. In summer the system closes curtains in unoccupied rooms to reduce heat from the sun and ease the load on the air conditioning. In winter it opens curtains to let in natural light and use passive heating to warm the room without using artificial systems.
This doesn’t just save energy, it also respects guest privacy. By being able to make adjustments remotely, staff can fix temperature changes without entering the guest’s room. Hotdash also tracks energy usage across the hotel and provides us with valuable data to identify areas for further optimisation.
By using this technology Deco Hotel has reduced its energy consumption and is moving towards a more sustainable future without compromising on service.
Rooftop Solar Power
Additionally, Deco Hotel uses rooftop solar panels as part of our sustainability efforts. These solar panels harness the power of the sun to generate clean, renewable energy, significantly reducing our reliance on traditional fossil fuel-based power sources.
The energy generated from our rooftop solar panels is used throughout the hotel to power various systems, such as lighting, heating, and cooling, as well as other essential operations. Our solar panels also provide energy to our EV charging facilities offered in our secured underground carpark.
By using solar energy, we are able to decrease the hotel's overall carbon footprint, as solar power produces little to no greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional electricity generation.
