Top Shopping Destinations in Canberra

The Deco Hotel offers easy access to the best shopping Canberra has to offer. Here are some of our favourite shopping destinations, so you’ll know where to go for all your retail needs if you’re visiting our capital city.

Canberra Shopping Centre

This large indoor shopping mall in the CBD is home to over 300 shops, and has been one of Canberra’s main retail centres since it opened in 1963. The centre caters for the whole family with all the most recognisable names in high street fashion, and several department stores which stock home wares and gifts as well as clothing. There is also an excellent food court here, and when you’ve shopped ‘til you’re ready to drop you can take in a movie at the on-site cinema.

Braddon

Braddon has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most stylish shopping destinations in Canberra. Fashion fiends flock to the trendy boutiques which feature exclusive collections by Australian designers, while art lovers adore the small galleries showcasing work by emerging local artists.

Located just 2.5km away from our hotel, Braddon also offers a variety of tempting cafe bars and an ever changing array of pop-up shops, most of which are situated at the heart of the precinct on Lonsdale Street.

Manuka Shopping Centre

A 15 minute drive will bring you to Manuka, a district offering a variety of different shopping experiences in close proximity to each other. Located in the inner south of Canberra, Manuka has been a popular shopping and leisure district since the 1920s, and appeals to locals and tourists alike due to its laid-back village atmosphere.

Its main shopping centre is Manuka Terrace, a multi-storey shopping and dining centre that offers a supermarket as well as a variety of fashion and gift shops, and most of the recognisable names in fast food.

Adjacent to this is Manuka Village, a fashion and beauty haven filled with boutiques and salons, as well as essential services such as banks and chemists’ shops. The Village also offers an excellent selection of cuisine from around the world.

The Old Bus Depot Markets

The Old Bus Depot Markets have become an institution in Canberra, operating every Sunday since 1994, when they were set up by two local mothers who invited their friends to sell jewellery and crafts. Today there are over 200 stalls on the site in Kingston, just over 8 km from the hotel.

Specialising in arts and crafts, the markets sell a wide variety of quality handmade goods in a friendly and bustling atmosphere. They are an essential stop on any visit to Canberra, and a perfect place to pick up some original gifts for friends and family back home.
